Dr Mark S Thomas

Dr Mark Thomas is from Treorchy. He qualified at St.George’s Hospital, London in 1987. After working in General and Geriatric Medicine in County Durham, Dr Thomas returned to Pontypridd. Here he gained experience in Casualty, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Psychiatry, General Paediatrics, Neonatal Intensive Care and Family Planning. He joined the practice in 1991. Dr Thomas is the trainer responsible for mentoring undergraduate medical students when they are based at Llynyfran Surgery as part of their training.

Dr Sonia Rooke

Dr Rooke is from South Africa. She qualified at the University of Cape Town (SA) in 1992. She gained experience in Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedics, General Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Frere Hospital (East London, South Africa) before emigrating to Wales in 1995. Dr Rooke gained more experience in ENT and Psychiatry at West Wales General Hospital in Carmarthen. She completed her GP training in Llandeilo in 1997 and joined Llynyfran Surgery in 1999. She recently completed the diploma in family planning and sexual health. Dr Rooke is a GP trainer responsible for mentoring and training doctors to specialise as GPs.

Dr Ben L Sellman

Dr Sellman is originally from Birmingham. He qualified at the University of Bristol Medical School in 2004. He trained as a GP in Somerset, where he gained experience in General Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Psychiatry and Paediatrics. He joined Llynyfran Surgery in 2010. Dr Sellman is a GP trainer responsible for mentoring and training doctors to specialise as GPs. He has also passed his Welsh exam – WJEC/CBAC, Cymraeg i Oedolion, Lefel Canolradd (Rhagoriaeth).

Dr Meilyr Gruffudd

Dr Meilyr Gruffudd is from Aberystwyth, a fluent Welsh speaker. He qualified at Cardiff University in 2007. He worked in Medicine, Surgery, ENT and Anaesthetics as a foundation doctor in Llanelli and Carmarthen. He then gained experience as a core Surgical trainee in Orthopaedics, Cardiothoracics, General Surgery, Burns and Plastics in Swansea and Bridgend. He returned to Carmarthen working in Paediatrics, Stroke Medicine and A&E as part of his GP training. He was a GP registrar at St Clears and Llynyfran Surgery before returning as a partner in 2014.

Dr Sian Jones

Dr Jones qualified from Cardiff Medical School in 2008 and joined Teifi Surgery in 2017 after completing her G.P. training at Llynyfran. She gained postgraduate experience in General Surgery and Orthopaedics during her surgical training and then gained experience in General Medicine, Paediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology during her GP training. She is a Welsh speaker. We are delighted to welcome her back to Llynyfran

Dr Asif Talpur

Dr Talpur qualified at Dow Medical College in 2004. His postgraduate experience includes Emergency medicine, Geriatrics, Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynaecology. After completing his G.P training at Llynyfran Surgery, Dr Talpur joined Teifi Surgery in 2014. We are delighted to welcome him back to Llynyfran.
